Malaria Diagnosis in Minutes
Bioengineers at Texas A&M University have combined a smartphone’s camera with optics to create a polarized light microscope that could be used to detect malaria.
The mobile-optical-polarization imaging device (MOPID) has the potential to rapidly diagnose malaria by providing microscopic resolution on a cellphone, with the same level of accuracy as benchtop spectroscopy.
