Brain Polariser is used for cases of Depression even where ECT & drugs fail to give results. It increases the alertness, mode elevation & feeling of well-being.

A treatment room/bed where the patient will not be disturbed should be used. Patients may take their meals before treatment. It should be well explained to them that they will experience no pain but will only feel a slight sensation of pulses on their forehead & gradually in the whole body. They should be well informed that the treatment will make them feel very relaxed & depressed-free.

Two Electrodes with red wire are to be fixed just above eyebrows & a single one with black/green wire at the right sole. Jelly should be applied for better contacts.

The Apparatus must be checked to ensure that the intensity control should be at zero position. Plug the main lead to 220V AC mains socket & switch on. The indication comes through a pilot lamp.

The Intensity control is then very slowly turned from minimum & the patient is askedto tell as he can feel the slight sensations of pulses on the forehead. With the patient's co-operation the intensity control should now be slowly increased to the level at which the sensations are more noticeable but not so strong that it is unpleasant. The treatment continues thus for 40 to 60 minutes during which the patient requires no supervision.

At the end of treatment ,the intensity control is slowly brought to minimum. And day by day go on reducing the intensity a little bit.

Treatment should be given everyday or 5-6 times a week. The course of treatment depends upon individual cases & the response obtained , but will normally be a minimum of 12-15 sessions. After treatment remove the electrodes & clean them.
