Heating mantels provide a positive alternative to steam heating using boiler or immersion heaters. They run at block heat, transferring heat to the liquid partly by radiation and partly by convection. The heating elements are closely pitched in a sinusoidal pattern to give an even distribution of heat and avoid hot spots. This results in a thermal efficiency exceeding 80%. Precise control of heat input is provided by a system of regulators and switches built into the heating mantle circuitry.
