STS-2 Shielding

The STS-2 Shielding kit is modeled after the STU shielding kit which has turned out to be one of the best, if not THE best, design for shielding an STS-2 seismometer from temperature and pressure variations. It consists of a hexagonal gabbro slab with a CNC-milled cable passage and six stainless steel mounting studs on which an inverted aluminum pot is pressed against a circular rubber gasket using six butterfly nuts. Connection with the mounting bolts is provided by a precision-welded flange rim.

The cable terminates in a standard Fischer connector for STS-2; a flanged Fischer receptacle is attached to the side of the gabbro slab.
