Kata Thermometer

The thermometer has a large bulb filled with coloured spirit. in making an observation the instrument b is heated by immersion in hot water and then dried. Then it is suspended in the air and the time taken to cool between the two temperatures indicated on the stem is noted and from this the rate of heat loss from the bulb ( the cooling power of the environment ) is ascertained.
